Have you ever needed to make a big impression? It could be for an event, or to impress the boss. Maybe it’s even for your own personal reasons and you need something that will really pop! If so, then I have a suggestion- Silhouette Pop Up Cards. This is one of those things that are hard to resist because they are just so impressive when the card is opened.
We all know what pop up cards look like. Probably, the most common of those would be the 2D ones that are layered and form a V-fold to open at 90-degrees. That’s nice, but these silhouette types are for us the most impressive looking ones especially for structural types of pop up elements such as buildings. Although they are usually opened at a 90-degree angle, they really do look like 3D and the various slits create even more solid effect.
Why is it called ‘Silhouette’ pop up card?
Because of the various cuts employed, this type of pop up card execution gives a silhouette effect. Viewing the card at different angles makes it even more impressive as each angle provides a different perspective to the 3D effect. The slits make it so that you are able to peer through the back of the card, but only just! The cuts can be made with pure white paper so that they stand out from any background colour added or printed on the backing or cover of the card giving that elegant look.
What’s unique about it?
Silhouette pop up cards are unique because their cuts and folds are only in a single piece of paper and with the art of folding precisely and with great care, it provides that 3-dimentional look. This is very different to traditional pop up cards where several pieces of paper are put together or glued separately to achieve a 3D effect. Although the silhouette type of pop up card can use only a single piece of paper, there is still significant thinking involved imagining how a 3D structure would pop out from a flat surface and designing it requires some technical understanding. We use Adobe Illustrator to design the cuts and folds, which go on to be printed with its design before it gets cut. Afterwards, it needs to be carefully folded with the various valley and mountain folds without manipulating the paper too much for it to wear out. The result is a simple, yet impressive pop up card.
